Coastal communities in the Carolinas are experiencing an increasing frequency of flood events from rainfall, storm surge, and tidal events. There is growing interest in the solutions nature and natural infrastructure have to offer for flood mitigation, and The Nature Conservancy (TNC) is working at the local to federal scale to increase resilience to flood risk through nature based solutions. This session will highlight several of TNC’s coastal resilience initiatives, including:
• Living shorelines: implementing adaptation solutions that build on TNC’s long legacy of conservation and restoration;
• Community Rating System open space preservation: highlighting a community’s natural areas and their value within this federal program to provide a road map for implementation;
• Regional resilience data: identifying the most valuable marine resources to assist with proactive smart management; and
• Federal policy initiatives: describing TNC’s federal work that is relevant to the Carolinas, including post-disaster funding and water resources initiatives.

We will also briefly showcase TNC’s coastalresilience.org website, an online decision support tool that provides information, data, and tools for nature based solution planning, and have time for a panel discussion with the audience.
